The Afton condominium complex directly supports the City of Boise’s initiative to create 1,000 units of downtown housing within the next decade. Revitalizing a former warehouse lot spanning River Street between 8th and 9th Streets, The Afton’s location is ideally placed near the BoDo district, the Boise River Greenbelt, multiple theaters, Zoo Boise, Boise Art Museum, and several parks.
Phase 1 included 80,000 sq. ft. spanning six stories, and 28 condos (ranging from one-bed/one-bath to three-bed/two-bath), three live/work units, and 4,000 sq. ft. of retail space. The first and second floors offer secure, dedicated parking, while amenities include a 10,000 sq. ft. third-floor patio with a dog run, barbecue area, and grass; 4’x6’x8′ storage units for every tenant; bike parking and repair areas; and a pet bathing station. With an anticipated completion in the second half of 2019, Phase 2 will include 30+ additional units and 100,000 sq. ft. of space.
Durable and maintenance-free materials were selected to ensure ease of facility upkeep, while two stories of post-tension concrete under four stories of wood make this project’s construction interestingly atypical. CTA has been working with developer Mike Hormaechea since 2007, jointly completely several prior projects including mixed-use condominium/retail complex Alpine Village in McCall, ID.
