During an all-staff meeting in late August, CTA President Scott Wilson passed along some exciting news: our principal ownership team has expanded to include associate principals Brad Sperry, AIA and Wayne Freeman, ASLA, CSLA, CLARB.
Sperry, a licensed architect and project manager, recently hit 20 years of tenure with the firm. A co-leader of the Commercial design studio and manager of CTA’s office in Billings, Montana, he has amassed broad experience across a variety of project types, but his most recent focus has centered on commercial office design for tech clients such as Dell and Google, and financial clients such as Stockman Bank, First Interstate Bank, and Pinnacle Bank. His past projects include Yellowstone National Park’s Old Faithful Visitor Education Center and Heritage and Research Center. Sperry holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Architecture from Montana State University.
Freeman, a landscape architect licensed in 10 states and two Canadian provinces, serves as principal-in-charge of CTA’s SITE group, and has been with the firm since 2005. Hailing from Bozeman, Montana, his work has ranged from major land developments to major land protection efforts, with a geographical reach spanning North America, across Europe, and around the Pacific Rim. Freeman’s recent projects have included Kalispell (MT) North Town Center, Riverview Park (Alton, IL), and Capital Crossing (Regina, SK). He earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Illinois.
Following the announcement, both individuals were lauded by fellow principals for their leadership and exemplification of firm values.
“Brad leads with a quiet humility. He builds trust through action and follow-through, and he’s an excellent role model for establishing an appropriate work/life balance,” CTA President Scott Wilson said. “Wayne is the ultimate road warrior, willing to do whatever it takes to get a job done,” he continued. “He strives to find a solution to every problem, and quitting on any task – no matter how small – is simply not in the guy’s DNA.”
“Brad and Wayne are client-service driven, and are unwavering when it comes to caring for family, clients and colleagues. I look forward to working with both of them to ensure CTA’s success for future generations,” Principal Greg Matthews said.
Principal David Koel also chimed in: “Brad and Wayne each bring their own unique traits of leadership, sales, and strategy that not only raise the bar, but also add a much better balance to the makeup of the CTA Board. We are a much stronger firm with them at the table, and I look forward to seeing where their presence can take us.”
In his free time, Sperry – whose family includes wife Danielle, and daughters Amarah and Evyr – loves travel and sporting events, specifically watching football. Freeman enjoys fly fishing, running rivers, holing up in the mountains and, alongside wife Fanee, and daughters Emily and Abby, running “stupid long races.” (He’s currently training for marathon number five in October in Chicago.)
